Yesterday marked a milestone for us here at Rebuilding Together Oakland: the completion of our 500th Safe-At-Home installation. The Safe-At-Home program began four years ago and works to install grab bars and other safety aids in the bathroom and throughout the home. It’s an important, cost-effective tool in helping senior citizens to age securely in place in their own homes, so that they might continue to live independently and avoid dangerous and expensive falls.
Safe-At-Home Program Coordinator Ed Leahy has been a champion to hundreds of seniors in the city of Oakland, and yesterday, he visited the home of Ms. Audrey to help ensure that she, too, can age in place with dignity.
Here’s to 500 seniors whose lives have been improved… and to 500 more in the coming years!
